清朝中国と琉球国とは朝貢関係にあった。その制約での交渉史がどのように展開されたかについて述べる。とくに中国使節と琉球使節の派遣と往来、中国で客死した琉球使節の問題、両国の漂着船への対応、朝貢貿易により琉球国にもたらされた中国産品の産地や、中国からの産品の琉球での流通等、主に清朝檔案資料を使い述べる。
