For nearly 30 years, Dr. Robert J. Sternberg has been recognized as one of world's leading authorities on human intelligence and intelligence testing, as well as closely related constructs such as creativity, expertise, giftedness, leadership, and wisdom. The admissions overhaul is part of a larger experiment that will track these students and compare them to students admitted under traditional assessments. Sternberg's experiment has generated a significant amount of buzz in the college admissions world and has been the subject of recent newspaper articles in The Boston Globe, Inside Higher Education, and The Guardian (UK).

About the author (2008)

James C. Kaufman is an Associate Professor at the California State University at San Bernardino, where he is also the director of the Learning Research Institute. He received his Ph.D. from Yale University in Cognitive Psychology, where his mentor was Robert J. Sternberg. Kaufman has authored more than 100 papers and written or edited 12 books, including the recent International Handbook of Creativity (with Sternberg; Cambridge, 2006), and Creativity and Reason in Cognitive Development (with Baer; Cambridge, 2006). Kaufman was recently named a co-editor of the official journal for APA's Division 10, Psychology, Aesthetics, and the Arts. He received the 2003 Daniel E. Berlyne Award from Division 10 of the American Psychological Association for outstanding research by a junior scholar, and has served as a Member at Large for Division 10. He has received awards for his professional contributions from CSUSB's psychology department and their college of social and behavioral sciences.

Dr. Elena L. Grigorenko received her PhD in General Psychology from Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia, and her PhD in Developmental Psychology and Genetics from Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut. Currently, she is Associate Professor of Child Studies and Psychology at Yale and Associate Professor of Psychology at Moscow State University. Dr. Grigorenko has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and books, and has received awards for her work from five different divisions of the American Psychological Association.
