I have my father's copy of Stacy's book, which he purchased in the year of its publication. I used it when I began my research on Pettus family genealogy around 1970. While Stacy covered practically all the known Pettuses in England and the U.S., her account of the early generations of Pettuses in Virginia is badly flawed, because she often relied upon sources that were flawed, because the authors overlooked or misinterpreted the information that was available to them. After doing my own research, I found credible sources of information in archives and courthouses in Virginia, Maryland, England, and Holland that shed new light on some of the previous riddles. I summarized my own findings in "Thomas Petyous of Norwich, England, and His Pettus Descendants in England and Virgina (two vols., 2011, 2013). Interested parties should contact me.
