Based on experience gathered firsthand at one of the most successful IVF programs in the country, In Vitro Fertilization presents a truly complete and caring overview of the options available to infertile couples. Addressing with candor two fundamental issues - couple eligibility and program selection - the authors guide readers through a maze of science fact and fiction. A revised edition of the authors' groundbreaking 1988 work From Infertility to In Vitro Fertilization, this new update is filled with information on the most recent advances on the subject. Chapters examine IVF step-by-step, suggest ways to mold realistic expectations about IVF, indicate how to find the right IVF program, and introduce GIFT (gamete intra-fallopian transfer), third-party parenting, and other IVF alternatives. Particular attention is paid to explaining who are the best candidates for IVF, especially in light of the rising ages of participants, as well as the physical, emotional, and financial risks involved.
