This book gave me a very clear idea if I wanted to buy a Dachshund. It was insightful, and easy to read so that a 10 year old could understand it. I could not believe how much information was jam packed into this amazing book. And now, I am almost an expert on Dachshunds, and I'm making a website about them!
This book is outdated with old fashioned training techniques that in my opinion should NOT be used on a Dachshund.
Dachshunds can suffer from back problems and care is needed to protect them as much as possible. This book suggests a FIRM tug on a collar and lead to teach the STOP command and a "forward tug" on the lead to teach heel. This is in my opinion is irresponsible information as one cannot determine how much of a tug the public will do. Teaching Stay, Stop and Loose lead walking is far easier than this and requires no harsh pulling or pushing.
Also pushing the dog into a sit and into a down is also not good for a Dachshunds back. As a Dachshund owner for years I would NOT suggest this as a good book. I think the person who wrote it has no idea about the breed at all.
