Bryson's ability to be engaging, comprehensive and accurate is nothing short of spectacular. His weaving together of scientist, discovery, personality and facts makes for a superbly readable book that really does deliver on its title - it really is a short history of nearly everything! With the basic knowledge he conveys, you could pick any one of the topics and delve much more deeply with relative ease.
