Front Cover
Vermilion, 2010 - Biography & Autobiography - 276 pages
Grandparenting is not what it used to be. For the younger generation, an Apple or Blackberry should never be eaten, communication is by acronym, and they will never know what it means to 'wait for the TV to warm up'.Gloria Hunniford is the proud, hands-on, and sometimesexhausted, grandmother to eight wonderful grandchildren. Over the years they have brought unimaginable joy and, frankly, kept her on her toes. This is a personal account of what it is to be a grandmother. From chanting 'She sells seashells on the sea shore' at 80 mph on Christmas Day to having her shoe laces tied by a mischievous 5 year old whilst having a nap, Gloria shares many happy memories accumulated over time. But for a modern-day grandparent, life isn't always easy. Many find they must tread carefully through a minefield of issues such as divorce and limited access to their grandchildren, feeling 'taken for granted' as a childminder, and managing views on manners, discipline, food and other aspects of childrearing. Gloria shares the experiences of many other grandparents and offers practical advice and guidance on these emotive subjects.A celebration of what it is to be a grandmother, this book shows that for many the best really is left to the last.
