John Norman's epic Gorean Saga is one of the longest-running and most successful series in the history of fantasy. It is also one of the most controversial. Over the course of more than thirty books produced over a span of six decades, the series has sold millions of copies and built legions of fans unrivaled in their devotion. E-Reads invites you to rediscover this brilliantly imagined world where men are masters and women live to serve their every desire. TARNSMAN OF GOR Book 1 of the Gorean Saga Tarl Cabot has always believed himself to be a citizen of Earth. He has no inkling that his destiny is far greater than the small planet he has inhabited for the first twenty-odd years of his life. One frosty winter night in the New England woods, he finds himself transported to the planet of Gor, also known as Counter-Earth, where everything is dramatically different from anything he has ever experienced. It emerges that Tarl is to be trained as a Tarnsman, one of the most honored positions in the rigid, caste-bound Gorean society. He is disciplined by the best teachers and warriors that Gor has to offer...but to what end? Read the entire saga, now with brilliant new cover art specially commissioned by E-Reads.

Tarnsman of Gor is the first book in a awesome series of story's written from manuscripts given to John Norman from his attorney Harrison Smith. So John states in the books, However it is fiction. Yet they are great stories and I have read them all and also part of the AOL RPG {Role Playing Game}. Which is played in chat-rooms. We use the books of Prof Norman as the History Scrolls of the world our character are living on. As in the later books he states they were also published on Gor. My reviews will be more so assistance on what is the story of each book. As for this one. Tarl finds out his father is on Gor and his parents both at one time were from Gor, The Priest Kings who are the rulers and founders of the planet send a ship to get him. Matthew his father has his own plans for the young man and his life is about to change. They are awesome books. I recommend anyone to read them all before judging them.

This book made me want this to be real and at the same time fear that it is.
I am a picky reader and it is hard for me to keep interested in a book but it took me and kept me in GOR!

About the author (2001)

John Norman is the creator of the Gorean Saga, the longest-running series of adventure novels in Science Fiction history. Starting in December, 1966, with TARNSMAN OF GOR, the series was put on hold after its 25th installment, MAGICIANS OF GOR, in 1988, when DAW refused to publish its successor, WITNESS OF GOR. After several unsuccessful attempts to find a trade publishing outlet, E-Reads brought the series back into print in 2001, and after WITNESS OF GOR (2002), PRIZE OF GOR (2008), KUR OF GOR (2009), SWORDSMEN OF GOR (2010) and MARINERS OF GOR (2011), they are now preparing the 2012 release of CONSPIRATORS OF GOR. Norman has also produced a separate, three-installment science fiction series, THE TELNARIAN HISTORIES, plus two other fiction works (GHOST DANCE and TIME SLAVE), a nonfiction paperback (IMAGINATIVE SEX) and a collection of thirty short stories, entitled NORMAN INVASIONS. THE TOTEMS OF ABYDOS is scheduled in Spring, 2012. All of Norman's work is available both in print and in ebook formats. The Internet has proven to be a fertile ground for the imagination of Norman's ever growing fanbase, and at Gor Chronicles (www.gorchronicles.com ), a web site specially created for his tremendous fan following, one may read everything there is to know about this unique fictional culture. John Norman was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1931. He is married and has three children.
