About the author (2000)

Steve Leinwand is a mathematics supervisor with the Connecticut Department of Education. He is responsible for a broad array of initiatives as they relate to the improvement of school mathematics, including curriculum development, professional development, program evaluation, and student and teacher assessment. He has held this position for twenty years, having previously taught and served as the district mathematics supervisor in the Middletown, Connecticut, public schools. Leinwand is also past-president of the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics and has served on the NCTM Board of Directors.
