Christ, the Life of the Soul
A classic guide to the spiritual life that has had a direct influence on several Popes, generations of priests and religious, and countless members of the laity. In clear, inspiring language, the author discusses every aspect of our journey to Christ: 'the source of all light, all grace, all holiness - the true Life of our life'. Written for Christians in every walk of life, here are pages of practical knowledge and timeless wisdom: a 'how-to' guide filled with rich insight, spiritual refereshment, inspiration and encouragement. Blessed Columba Marmion was born in Ireland, and served as a priest in Dublin for several years before finding a vocation to the monastery. He eventually became Abbot of Maredsous Abbey, Belgium.

My Reflection on 2015-09-16
I recall reading this or other books by Abbott Marmion during my years at The Retreat in Yercaud, South India, from 1967 to 1969. If I am not mistaken it was Fr. Joseph Puthenkalam, SDB, who recommended that I read Abbott Marmion’s books. Evidently, the perspectives offered strengthened my faith.
As I re-read "Christ, the Life of the Soul" [extracts from Google books] today, these are some of the thoughts that crossed my mind.
- Written by a man of great faith in Christ and admired by many, including Popes
- Reinforces the “super-natural” from a Christo-centric perspective
- For a society that accepted experiences and expressions of faith in Christ
- For a group of people dedicated to the mysteries of the Christian Faith
Today, I wonder if the book reflects adequately on "Christ, the life of the soul" for someone who does not have the theological or Christian background? I guess that historically this interfaith quest was not relevant to Abbott Marmion's contemplative style or faith tradition.
