John Tuttle, probably of the line of John 12; b. about 1730; was a boatman on the Conn. river, and was of or from Lebanon, Conn.; had ss. Joseph, James and John. 1, JOHN, b. April 8, 1763; was a Methodist preacher in Ohio "of tremendous energy;" afterwards a Universalist. He was f. by 3 marriages of 24 chil.; he m. (1) Abigail, and had 6 chil.; (2) Sarah and had 8 chil.; she d. 13. Samuel Tuttle, b. Jan. 9, 1659-60; stone mason; m. June, 1694, Sarah, dau. of Samuel Newman of N. H.* In 1703 he bought land near Wallingford bridge. Simon Tuttle 9, wit. In 1706 he bought land in Wall. of Simon Tuttle. In 1722 he agreed with John Humiston to divide the lot formerly belonging to the wid. Anne Howe. In 1729 he conv. to Caleb Todd lands on east side of N. H., East River. Also right in land laid out to "my honored grandfather, Mr. William Tuttle." Sam. Tuttle and wf., Sarah, joined the chh. in N. H., 1692. He m. (2d), —, Abigail, dau. of John and Mercy Frost, and wid. of Thomas Barnes; and mother of 15 chil. In 1717 John Frost of Newark, N. J., his bro. Samuel Tuttle and Abigail his wf. formerly wf. of Thos. Barnes, conv. to Ebenezer Frost right in homestead of f. and mo., John and Mercy Frost of N. H. Sam. Tuttle, sr., d. between 1731-33. In Nov., 1736, Capt. Samuel Barnes presented a petition to the court in regard to his "mo., Abigail Tuttle, who had fallen into discomposure of mind," was incapable, etc., and he was appointed conservator. The thirds of the wid., Abigail T., were divided to heirs of Samuel Tuttle, 1748. S. T. was a large land owner and the genealogy is proved in sundry deeds and settlements between the heirs. In 1756 Stephen Tuttle conv. to Samuel Bishop 1-9 of 8th division laid out to f., Samuel Tuttle. In 1765 Stephen and Rachel Tuttle, Thomas and Mehitable Walter, Hannah Todd, Jehial Tuttle and Thomas and Martha Sperry, all of N. H., conv. to Daniel Atwater land in 9th division laid out to Sam.
