Appraisal for Japan of the Safety of the Transport of Radioactive MaterialThe IAEA's Statute authorizes it to provide for the application of its standards at the request of any State. The IAEA discharges this statutory function through a number of mechanisms, including rendering independent peer review appraisal services to determine the status of compliance with its standards. The appraisal for Japan in December 2005 on the safety of the transport of radioactive material is the seventh TranSAS mission since the inception of the service.
