Turtle and Wallaby: An Old Story from Mornington Island
Mirndiyan Gununa Aboriginal Corporation, Jan 31, 2015 - Dreamtime (Aboriginal Australian mythology) - 19 pages
Turtle gives wallaby a lift across the water and in return wallaby helps turtle escape from hunters. The story in this book is not a traditional Lardil story, but it has been told at Mornington Island for a long time now. Phil Jack made this story up and used to tell it to children in the 1970s. Lardil language was later added by Joseph Watt, and this version was performed in 1999 by Year 5 students as a play at their end of year concert. Most recently, creole dialogue has been added to bring the story to life.
