About the author (2008)

John McDonald is one of Australia's best-known and most pre-eminent arts commentators and writers. He has been chief curator of Australian art at the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra and the editor of Australian Art Review. Currently, John is art critic for the Sydney Morning Herald.
