Evidently he believed kids should pay in pain for their sins, both large and small. Only AFTER the beating was administered and "tears of repentance" instead of pain were shed did Larry allow his kids to pray for Jesus' forgiveness. Once Larry spanked a kid for something he didn't do. He apologized, but the kid's bottom was still sore. Whenever an adult Christian sins, he is gently guided through some vague, "restoration process" without first needing to be beaten to qualify for Jesus' forgiveness You never hear of a wayward preacher being whacked on the bottom for using profanity or inappropriate conduct toward ladies. Those who are bigger and stronger have an easier time of it than the little ones they hold to a higher standard of holiness. If God treated such parents as strictly as they do their own kids,God would whack 'em good for their sins every single day instead of bestowing FREE forgiveness they don't have to suffer to earn. Why aren't there legal guidelines for restricting the severity of spanking, by whom, under what circumstances and how old the child has to be, etc.? Children can be seriously injured or worse from spanking.
However much you try to hallow and whitewash cruelty it still isn't nice. Solomon, an idolater who built child-eating idols taught spanking, but Jesus didn't. It's wrong to make money off spanking books that encourage harshness toward helpless children who need to be gently led with encouraging words and shown patience. You can't beat the love of Jesus into a child. It takes time to grow and learn how to properly relate to God and other human beings.
