This method is as efficient as the Jones plan as far as perfect heating and easy management are concerned. It reduces the scale on the surfaces of the pieces, leaving them a darkgray color and covered with fine carbon or soot. For annealing blocks it is handier and cheaper than the Jones plan, but it will not do for polishing...
