Historical Dictionary of the Chinese Civil War

Front Cover
Scarecrow Press, 2002 - History - 191 pages
Leung (Asian studies, Seton Hall U.) has been studying China for some three decades. Covering the period between 1921 and 1949, his scholarly resource text includes an introduction which places the war in context and identifies the major events, which are presented in greater detail in an extensive chronology. These are followed by the dictionary itself, with entries for the key players on both sides, the political parties and other institutions, major campaigns and battles, and outsiders intervening in support of one side or the other. While emphasis is on the past, the entries also help explain the ongoing effects on the present and the future. The text also includes a selective bibliography for further research. No subject index.
