About the author (1976)

Robert Alfred Pincus-Witten was born in Manhattan, New York on April 5, 1935. He received a bachelor's degree from the Cooper Union in Manhattan in 1956 and a master's degree in 1962 and a doctorate in 1968 from the University of Chicago. He taught at City University of New York from 1964 until retiring in 1990. He wrote for several magazines including Artforum and Arts Magazine. He also wrote several books including Postminimalism, Eye to Eye: Twenty Years of Art Criticism, and Postminimalism Into Maximalism: American Art, 1966-1986. In 1996, he joined C&M Arts as director of exhibitions and held the post for 11 years. He was also a personal adviser to art collectors. He died on January 28, 2018 at the age of 82.
