James Powick (1793-1871) was a son of John Powick (1749-1814) and a grandson of Edward Powick (d.1790) of Shrawley, Worcester County, England. James and four sons (Thomas, John, Joseph and Jesse) immigrated in 1856 to Stoke, Nelson, New Zealand, moving in 1859 to Mount Cook Farm at Marshlands near Spring Creek, Tua Marina, New Zealand. Descendants and relatives lived in New Zealand. Also includes descendants and relatives who continued to live in England, Wales, Scotland and elsewhere. Some immigrated from England to Pennsylvania and elsewhere in the United States. One relative (James Powick, 1828-1875) immigrated to New South Wales in Australia but his progeny are to be covered in a later book, along with the families of his five sisters.
