Pp. 27-43, "Das Konstrukt der jüdischen Verschwörung gegen die Welt: Die 'Protokolle der Weisen von Zion'" [appeared in "Grosse Verschwörungen" (1998)], sketches the literary sources of the "Protocols", its first publication in 1905 by Nilus as a weapon against liberal foes of the tsarist regime, its wide dissemination in a world already infused with antisemitism, and the many attempts to expose it as a fabrication. Such attempts seemed only to reinforce its credibility for people in need of simple explanations for world events. |
