Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is the first bestselling book in Rick Riordan's phenomenally successful Percy Jackson series - now with a new cover look.

Half boy. Half God. ALL Hero.

Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood. I never asked to be the son of a Greek God.

I was just a normal kid, going to school, playing basketball, skateboarding. The usual. Until I accidentally vaporized my maths teacher. Now I spend my time battling monsters and generally trying to stay alive.

This is the one where Zeus, God of the Sky, thinks I've stolen his lightning bolt - and making Zeus angry is a very bad idea.

Rick Riordan has now sold an incredible 55 million copies of his books worldwide

While maybe not as literary as the Harry Potter books, the Percy Jackson books are wonderful in their own way. First, the characters (particularly Percy) are irresistible. Second, they are quick-paced ... Read full review

This was a lot of fun to read! It was better, in my opinion, than the movie, largely because it filled in a lot of the background bits that typically get left out of a movie. I really appreciated the ... Read full review

About the author (2013)

Rick Riordanis a teacher and a writer, and has won many awards for his mystery novels for adults. He says that the idea for Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thieffirst came to him while he was teaching Greek mythology at middle school in San Francisco. But rumour has it that Camp Half Blood actually exists, and Rick spends his summers there recording the adventures of young demigods. Some believe that, to avoid a mass panic among the mortal population, he was forced to swear on the River Styx to present Percy Jackson's story as fiction. Rick lives in Texas (apart from his summers on Half Blood Hill) with his wife and two sons.
