WE FINALLY HAVE ULRIK'S BOOK! I was shocked that his book was so soon but I'm loving that it was! After that ending in Heat, I needed to know. His book has been one of the most anticipated in the whole series. I started reading it the minute it downloaded on my Kindle and didn't put it down until it was finished...and then I read it again.
Ulrik is the King of Silvers who was banished from Dreagan and forced to live life as a mortal. For thousands of years he has plotted revenge against Constantine for making him live with those he has despised. Until he meets Eilish, a Druid, who has agreed to kill him. Eilish has been working with the enemy of both Ulrik and Con to learn information on where her mother is. As powerful as she is, she has never been able to find anything, and they hold it over her head to do their bidding. But Ulrik and Eilish can't seem to stay away from each other...or the desire that blazes between them.
This book was absolutely amazing! I loved how it the started from Ulrik point of view right after he was banished. And from then on it's a whirlwind from there on out. Ulrik is the quintessential man of mystery. You never know what he's thinking or feeling. He never reveals his true motives for anything. But in Torched you get to know the man underneath. We see him trying to overcome his past and the issues from it and how hard he has to fight the instincts he adopted long ago. I've long thought that Ulrik would redeem himself in the end and change and I'm so happy that I was right. Ulrik out of everyone deserves a happily ever after, but he can't get it until he faces his past and puts it to rest. We also see him dealing with emotions he's never had before and I loved watching him squirm!
Eilish...what do I say about her? Other than a big, fat "Thank you" for giving me my Ulrik back?! I don't think it was just her, but it was her love that finally healed his past and made him want to be a better man...for her. They gave each other the things they were both missing out of life...their families. Their relationship was spectacular. Eilish is feisty woman who knows her own mind and challenges Ulrik at every turn. Which is exactly what he needs.
That isn't all in this favorite story of mine though. The other big bad in the series is still being investigated. Usaeil has some balls on her and I wish someone, preferably Rhi, would handle her...soon. As for Rhi...I have no words. Whenever I read about her, I'm overcome with sadness. I feel like she keeps being blind-sighted and thrown off her feet. It goes to show how powerful she really is that she hasn't succumbed to the darkness. It was a surprise that out of all the people in this book Con and Ulrik are the ones to try to console Rhi. Con is also a major player in this one. Throughout most of the books several of the Kings comment on how close Con and Ulrik were and that connection is more than obvious in the later chapters of the book. Hopefully it can be restored to its former glory! And one of my favorite parts...we hear about how he became King of Kings and boy that was a doozy! There are some "Oh sh**" moments at the end of the book that can come off as a cliffhanger, but that just means there is more for me to look forward too. Until the next one! I can't wait! - Cat P.
