Commagene is the ancient name for the region extending between the Taurus Mountains and the Euphrates. Located in the outer fringes of the Mediterranean the region was always a crossroads between the East and the West. There are well-known UNESCO sites like the tumulus of Antiochus I and the city of Zeugma known for the mosaics. However, the region is richer with many more monuments from prehistory through the modern days encompassing numerous medieval fortresses and Hittite rock reliefs.
