Doran Satterfield did not expect to spend the summer of his sixteenth year breaking into abandoned buildings. He'd predicted something more commonplace for his months in exile from his North Carolina home. Instead, he is drawn to a group of amateur photographers who spend the long, hot days of July and August 2004 taking pictures of the last few abandoned factories left on the Hudson waterfront: snipping bolts, shimmying up collapsed staircases, tiptoeing across crumbling catwalks, and marveling at the grandeur of the Garden State ruins. The Trespassers is the story of his relationships with four other young people in rapid transition - and his relationship to a vanishing landscape that threatens to absorb him.
