At the begining of the book I could see the Twilight influence but about 40% of the way thru I quickly forgot all about Twilight. Yes there is lots and lots of sex in the book, but I dont care about that. I love the story, I love the characters and I am so wrapped up in their lives you literally cant put the book down til you are done.

I am eagerly awaiting book #2. ( )

Overrated? Definitely. Worth a quick read? Sure. It was amusing at times, but yeah it felt boring. This was my first introduction to BDSM and I expected more somehow. I felt their relationship was too toxic too. ( )

About the Book:
Christian Grey , a CEO and millionaire, meets klutz college student Anastasia Steele. After meeting, Christian became fascinated with Anna and decided that he couldn’t leave her alone, but his lifestyle wasn’t anywhere near normal. Anna has to decide if she wants to risk it all for this guy she just met and if his attention is worth the risk.

Review:
Although I am not a huge fan of the very steamy books, I enjoyed this one. I loveddd the character development the most. The way the characters grow and change throughout the book is charming. I am excited to read his point of view! ( )

Equal parts cringeworthy relationships, bad life choices and personal issues, interspersed with nuzzling, passionate/violent kissing and shower sex.
Had fun reading it but wanted to roll my eyes the whole time. Now I’ve finished the book I feel like eating pancakes. 2,5-3,5 stars depending on my daily level of lit snobbishness. ( )

Well there was so much fuss about this book that I felt positively out of the conversations by not having read it. And the truth is, I still haven't read it. Yes, I've skimmed it...looking for the salacious parts but found it all a bit boring. So now that i have to downsize my library, this is one of those that's going off to the charity sale. There is no chance that I'll ever get around to reading it in full. Life is too short and I've got loads of better books yet to read. One star from me. ( )

This book sadly did not live up to the hype, however I have nothing but compliments for the author who is a writer of great skill. Though the book lacks some substance and at times requires a leap of faith I was completely caught up in the story from start to finish. I found myself unable to put the books down, even as I felt the story became a bit long, especially towards the end. ( )

Male review:

Story: 8 / 10
Characters: 6
Setting: 6
Prose: 4

Fifty Shades of Grey is a surprisingly good book. I've asked countless woman what they thought of it and they always described it as a terrible book and a guilty pleasure. Obviously, I was curious and it was a good opportunity to explore more romance novels.

Turns out the story is actually fascinating. The reader is taken on a first love adventure with a university alumnus who is rather difficult to impress. The relationship creates an intriguing conflict from the start and the story flows around the secretive pair nicely. The prose is rather weak. However, it never really detracts from the strengths of the plot. There is also far too much erotica, but maybe that comes with the genre. My impression is that most people that really disliked the book have these aforementioned criticisms. If you can overcome these two shortcomings, this is a worthwhile read and a strange adventure.

I've also heard that this was Twilight fan fiction, but sadly it is too difficult to find. In fact, this book is quite a bit better than Twilight. ( )

These books are the equivalent of reality television, the train-wreck you can't turn away from completely (I read it, but didn't blaze through it). Is it poorly written? yes. Is it fantastic? no. Completely silly? yes. Do you keep reading it just so you know what it is people are talking so much about? Mainly. ( )

During the first half of this book, I wasn't sure what all the fuss was about. Ok, it's a book about BDSM. I'm sure there are more. So why is this one so popular and 'mainstream' all of a sudden? My feeling was, it's just clever marketing. Along with a classy cover.
I sure as hell wasn't going to read the next book, particularly since I thought there was something annoying about the relationship between Christian and Anastasia. He's a major control freak that no-one should ever put up with. He doesn't only want to control Ana in the bedroom, he wants to dominate her everywhere. On top of that, he says he loves her, but in the meantime he's pushing a lifestyle on her that she clearly doesn't want. Particularly with his over-the-top all-out version of BDSM, I'd imagine you don't ask anyone you care for to join you in it unless they've already shown a prior inclination. Certainly not someone like Ana, who is a just-graduated virgin who still needs to learn who she is and what she likes before anyone pushes their own preferences on her.
She, of course, is somewhat of an idiot. Sure, you can love a guy, but to go along with all of this when you don't want to, that just proves my point about Christian being selfish for asking her.
The thing that turned it around for me a bit, is that in the second half of the book, Ana develops some backbone. She is more clear about what she wants and doesn't want, and what she does only for Christian. I found that that part of it was not badly written, and considering the ending, now I'm curious as to what happens next. So I probably will read the sequel. All in all, I'd give the book 2.5 stars if that were possible. I'm going with 2 since that half star is based on a very small part of the book... ( )

So I've read this to see what the hype was all about. And I am not disappointed. There is no smoke without a fire.

BDSM aside this is written in strange telegram style that strongly reminded me of Black Box. And not some a mystic stuff but very utilitarian like they put into aircrafts. It’s like an emotionless recoding of emotions. No mater how graphical sex gets there is no real passion or connection on personal level. And sadly that contradicts what this book is all about. Trust. So, without trust from reader almost half of it is ranging from giggly to outright laughable right until around last third. Where for some it still be all laugh and for some really not.

It would be interesting to see what author have next, for I believe the central dilemma of the book is reached the climax and is truly unsolvable in real life. So the next books must finally go to the pure fantasy department. Which is sad. But whatever.

I cannot with this book. There is absolutely nothing remotely likeable about these lackluster characters and the ghost of a plot. This is the first book I've ever abandoned. Normally I will continue to read, even if I don't like the book, but I just can't with this one.

Ugh. Don't even get me started on how bad this book is. I've tried reading it multiple times and couldn't get past page 23. The writing is horrible. Grammar errors abound. With a strong editor it may have turned into a sexy read, but ugh. Just ugh. ( )

Wasn't sure if I should add these to my profile, but they should count no matter how terribly written. Quick reads with an exciting enough story line. ( )

I'm giving this book 3 stars because I honestly cannot tell you what I thought of it. It was enthralling, I read it in a week, and I'm going to read the second one now because I genuinely care about what happens to these characters.
The writing was sloppy and in some places even laughable. But I enjoyed reading it despite this.
I kind of skipped over a lot of Ana talking to herself and I think that helped... ( )

1st read of series was really good. 2nd read showed the issues with the writing. Won't re-read the series again. ( )

I am always a fan of characters. I think the characters in these books are great. The problems I have are technical ones. For example, the fact that the colloquialisms are all British, and the book is set in the Pacific NorthWest. I had a little bit of a hard time getting past that. However, the story was compelling. This book has caused a lot of buzz. Some people love it and some hate it. I didn't love it but I did find it interesting enough and I'll have to admit that when the book concluded with a "End of Part One" I did find myself wondering what will happen next... ( )

Hot---steamy---hot---wow---that's all I can say. I've read lots of BDSM but this was a thrill. Christian is well drawn, and totally Dominant. I wouldn't mind having a scene with him, that's for sure. On the other hand, Ana is just a bit annoying, with her "oh my" and her constant waffling. I think she needs more spanking.
Just downloaded the second one and will start it tomorrow. I need to cool off!! ( )

it has been on my kindle for over a year. Just didn't think I would like it. It was not what I was expected and I found tears running down my face when I finished. That means I believed in the characters and threw myself into the book as a reader, which is what authors want. Yes...too much detail of you know what... but the rest I loved! Had to read it before the movie anyways!! now on to book two ( )

There was some good and some bad with this book if I am to be honest, to start with, how many times can a person say crap, double crap and basically any other thing with crap at the end way too much in my personal opinion, do people actually say this to themselves? I never have, well not in the context that Ana does.
She is 21 years old and she seems way too naive for that age, I know she is a virgin but that does not make you naive and being told what Christian Grey wants from her she doesn't really batter an eyelid. Now if it were me, and I were a virgin I would be running for the hills, no matter what he looked like and however much he intrigued me.
It was quite scary that Christian stalked Ana after their first meeting, this is not normal and would be a felony, I think I would have backed off the at the first or second instance of this.

I loved the storyline though, the way I read it, it was the beginning of a love story and although Christian is fifty shades of f***** up by his own admittance it seems that Ana is doing him some good. She is changing him without trying too, and that may be why her naivety is a good thing. She wants hearts and flowers, the real deal he doesn't but he is willing to try for her.
There was a lot sex scenes but this is to be expected as it is an 'erotic' book but nothing that shocked me. Although I am not sure that the amount of sex they had on the first night of becoming a non virgin would just make her sore. I think she would be walking a little oddly too haha.
As I said I loved the storyline, the characters and the detail involved into making those characters come alive in my imagination and their surroundings too. It was a great read.
I can understand why so many copies of this book have been sold worldwide. ( )
